Rajputs
   The origin of the clans identified during the medieval pe-riod (1000-1526) as Rajputs may be traced to the groups displaced from Rajputana by newcomers from Central Asia in the wake of the Hun incursions (6th century). In the beginning of 11th century, the Rajputs first appeared in Indian history as ruling clans that were rec-ognized in the contemporary Brahmanical literature as belonging to the warrior (kshatriya) caste. The four agnikula clans dominated early Rajput activity. Later clans claiming descent from solar and lu-nar races also established themselves as local kings in different parts of India.
